Daniel in his Maro toe socks, enjoying the toe freedom: “once they’re on, you’re completely unaware of the individual toe sleeves, and the freedom inside your shoes completely eradicates the feeling of material between your toes.”
Why Barefoot Socks?
Most socks are knitted with a tapered toe, the same narrow triangle shape as a conventional shoe. Put a pair inside a wide barefoot toe box and they quietly undo the benefits: they press your toes together, restrict natural splay and add a seam of pressure across the top of your foot.
Anatomical socks work with your footwear instead of against it. A foot-shaped knit follows the natural outline of the foot, so your toes stay free to spread and grip the way they're meant to. You get the full benefit of your barefoot shoes from skin out, with a comfortable, seam-light fit that lasts all day.
Toe Socks
A separate sleeve for each toe, like a glove for your foot. Toes move and splay independently, and the fabric stays smooth between the toes with no bunching in the toe box.
Foot-Shaped Socks
A single anatomical toe box, wide like your barefoot shoes but without separated toes. The closest feel to barefoot with a soft layer underfoot, ideal if toe socks aren't your thing.
Plenty of splay room and completely non-restrictive. Great quality too: they wash well and don’t shrink in the tumble dryer.

Barefoot Sock FAQs
Do toe socks work in all barefoot shoes?
Yes. Toe socks are designed for wide toe boxes, which every barefoot shoe has. They sit flat inside the shoe with no bunching or extra bulk, and the individual toe sleeves keep the fabric smooth between your toes. If you need help finding the right shoe size to go with them, our foot measuring guide and the Shoe Match Assessment will point you in the right direction.
What's the difference between toe socks and foot-shaped socks?
Toe socks have an individual sleeve for each toe, like a glove for your foot, so every toe can move and spread independently. Foot-shaped socks have a single wide, anatomical toe box without separated toes, mirroring the shape of a barefoot shoe. Both allow natural toe splay; it simply comes down to which feel you prefer.
Are these socks suitable for kids?
Yes. Several options in the range are unisex and available in smaller sizes, including the AIRA Basics barefoot crew socks, which come in a Youth size (EU 32-35) for growing feet. Check the size options on each product to find the right fit for your child.
Are barefoot socks machine washable?
Yes, all of our barefoot socks are machine washable. We recommend a standard cotton wash at 30-40 degrees and letting them air dry, which keeps the organic cotton and grip soles in good condition for longer.
Can I wear toe socks with regular shoes?
You can, but they work best with barefoot shoes that have wide toe boxes. In a narrow, tapered shoe there simply isn't room for your toes to splay, so you lose the benefit of the individual toe sleeves. Inside a wide toe box, toe socks let your feet move exactly as nature intended.
