Stop shopping by shoe size.
Start shopping by foot measurement.
Enter your actual foot measurements and The BarefootBrit Fit System™ will find the barefoot shoes and boots most likely to fit your feet, including the size we recommend.
Why width is classified by anatomical profile rather than flat cm measurements:
Manufacturer width measurements vary wildly across brands. A factory might measure only the flat base and claim a shoe is 9.5 cm wide, yet an adult with a 10.1 cm wide foot can wear it in complete comfort because high-grade leather or knit uppers provide generous 3D vertical volume and anatomical toe-box curvature that flat sole measurements miss. Drawing on Daniel, Lowenna, and Brit's hands-on experience fitting hundreds of barefoot shoe models at BarefootBrit Shop, we classify each model into verified fit profiles (Medium, Wide, and Extra Wide) alongside vertical foot volume ratings (Low, Medium, and High volume for different instep heights and foot depths) based on real-world 3D fit rather than misleading numbers.
Important fit information: Sizing recommendations from the BarefootBrit Fit System™ are expert advice based on internal dimensions hand-measured by Daniel, Lowenna, and Brit. Because foot volume, instep height, toe curvature, sock thickness, and personal comfort preferences vary from person to person, recommendations serve as professional sizing guidance rather than a guaranteed or binding fit. In line with BarefootBrit Shop's returns policy, unworn footwear can be returned within 30 days in its original shoe box (outbound postage is non-refundable; return shipping is customer-paid tracked delivery). Please see our Shipping & Returns page for full details.
Why Shoe Sizes Fail (And Why Measurements Tell the Truth)
Ever noticed an EU 40 in one brand pinches your toes, while an EU 40 in another feels huge? High-street shoe sizing is notoriously inconsistent. The BarefootBrit Fit System™ pairs your actual foot dimensions with real internal measurements taken inside every shoe.
Hand-Measured by Daniel, Lowenna & Brit
We do not rely on manufacturer charts or generic conversions. Daniel, Lowenna, and Brit physically measure the inside dimensions of every model BarefootBrit Shop stocks using calibrated internal gauges at our Shustoke, Warwickshire warehouse. Just as importantly, between the three of us, one or two of us has first-hand (or foot!) experience wearing each shoe and brand, giving you trusted expert insight on how each pair truly fits.
Why We Add ~1 cm to Foot Length
When you walk or run, your foot naturally elongates and your toes splay under your body weight. The Fit System automatically adds approx 0.8–1.2 cm for adults (1.5–1.8 cm for children) so your toes never hit the front of the shoe.
Standard vs. Roomy Fit in Centimetres
Prefer a roomier fit, or planning to wear thick winter socks? Our system calculates both your Standard Fit recommendation (~0.8–1.0 cm extra space) and Roomy Fit alternative (~1.0–1.2 cm extra space) so you can choose what best matches your routine.
Why Width Isn't Just a Flat Number
Shoe factories measure width in wildly differing ways. A manufacturer might claim an insole is 9.5 cm wide, yet an adult with a 10.1 cm wide foot can wear that shoe in absolute comfort because the upper provides generous 3D vertical volume and anatomical toe shaping. Drawing on Daniel, Lowenna, and Brit's hands-on fitting experience at BarefootBrit Shop, we classify each style into verified fit profiles (Medium, Wide, and Extra Wide) alongside vertical foot volume ratings (Low, Medium, and High volume for different instep heights and foot depths) based on real-world 3D fit rather than misleading flat measurements.
Professional sizing advice, not a binding guarantee: Recommendations from The BarefootBrit Fit System™ represent our honest, expert advice based on real internal measurements and practical fitting experience. However, every foot is shaped uniquely: variations in instep height, heel width, foot volume, toe alignment, and sock thickness mean a shoe may still feel different on your foot.
In line with BarefootBrit Shop's returns policy, all unworn shoes can be returned within 30 days in their original packaging and shoe box for a refund. Please note that return shipping is customer-paid via tracked delivery, and original outbound postage is non-refundable. For full terms, please visit our Shipping & Returns page.
Frequently Asked Questions About Shoe Measurements
Why should I shop by foot measurement rather than my normal shoe size?
Standard high-street shoe sizes vary dramatically between manufacturers. An EU 40 in one brand might have a 25.0 cm insole, while another brand uses 26.5 cm. In barefoot footwear, proper toe room is essential: your toes need freedom to splay naturally without being squeezed by narrow or tapered toe boxes. Measuring your feet in centimetres gives an objective, reliable baseline that matches actual internal shoe dimensions hand-measured by our team.
Why don't you ask for foot width as a flat number in centimetres?
Manufacturer width numbers are notoriously misleading and measured in completely different ways across factories. For example, a brand may claim an insole is only 9.5 cm wide, yet an adult with a 10.1 cm wide foot can wear that shoe in total comfort. This happens because high-grade leather or knit uppers provide generous 3D vertical volume and anatomical toe-box curvature that flat sole measurements completely miss. Drawing on Daniel, Lowenna, and Brit's hands-on experience fitting hundreds of barefoot shoe models at BarefootBrit Shop, we classify each style into verified fit profiles (Medium, Wide, and Extra Wide) alongside vertical foot volume ratings (Low, Medium, and High volume for different instep heights and foot depths) based on real-world 3D fit rather than confusing flat measurements.
Why does the Fit System add approx 1 cm to my foot length?
When you stand, walk, or run, your foot naturally elongates and your toes splay under your body weight. If a shoe matched your exact static foot length, your toes would strike the end of the toe box with every step. The BarefootBrit Fit System™ automatically adds approximately 0.8–1.2 cm of comfort room for adults (and 1.5–1.8 cm of growing room for children) so your toes enjoy complete, healthy freedom.
When should I choose Roomy Fit instead of Standard Fit?
Choose the Roomy Fit (~1.0–1.2 cm space) if you prefer a generous, unconstrained feel, have fan-shaped feet, or plan to wear thick wool winter socks. Standard Fit (~0.8–1.0 cm space) provides our baseline anatomical recommendation with a secure hold through the midfoot and heel.
What should I do if one foot is longer than the other?
Always enter the measurement of your longest foot into the Fit Finder. It is easy to secure the slightly smaller foot with adjustable laces or a light insole, but a shoe that is too short for your longer foot will compress your toes and cause discomfort.
Is the recommended size a guaranteed fit, and what is your return policy?
Recommendations from The BarefootBrit Fit System™ are professional sizing advice based on internal shoe measurements hand-taken by our team. Because foot shape, instep volume, arch height, and individual comfort preferences vary from person to person, size suggestions serve as helpful expert guidance rather than a binding guarantee.
